A man who stabbed two women in the street in two unprovoked attacks has been sentenced to a hospital order for an unlimited period under section 37 of the Mental Health Act.
Ivor Collingwood-Williams, 38 (02.10.81) of Garrison Road, E3, was convicted of two counts of GBH and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon after a trial of the facts at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 6 December 2019.
He was sentenced at the same court on 10 January to a Hospital Order under Section 37 of the Mental Health Act 1983, with a restriction under Section 41 – which means that he will be detained in a mental health institution until he is deemed fit and no longer a risk to the public and makes a successful application to the Secretary of State.
The court heard Collingwood-Williams attacked a 63-year-old woman on 24 August 2018 and then a 57-year-old woman two days later.
In the first incident, Collingwood-Williams approached the victim on Garrison Road and then lunged towards her with the knife.
After she was stabbed in the stomach, the woman managed to run away and raise the alarm.
On 26 August 2018, Collingwood-Williams stabbed a 57-year-old woman in the stomach multiple times and in the hand on the corner of Parnell Road and Roman Road.
Both victims suffered serious abdominal injuries that required hospital treatment. Fortunately, they have both been able to make full recoveries.
Collingwood-Williams was arrested on 27 August after officers carried out an arrest warrant at his home address.
He gave a series of ‘no comment’ interviews but was charged later the same day.
