US Jew of State Visits Philippines to Promote Global War Agenda

The Philippines is the poorest country in Asia. The last president, Rodrigo Duterte, did a lot to clean things up in terms of the totally out of control crystal meth industry. But the country remains incredibly poor, on the whole, in comparison to Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, etc.

The biggest part of this is that their relationship with the US cockblocks them from being involved in Chinese investment projects. Fifteen years ago, the Philippines was probably on par with Burma or Cambodia, but those countries have rocketed ahead in terms of quality of life due to massive Chinese investment.

The Philippines has zero reason to get involved in a conflict with China – except the fact that the US has a knife to their throats.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken paid a visit to Manila to meet the Philippines’ newly elected leader and reassure him of Washington’s full support in the face of China’s “destabilizing and dangerous” actions, following US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan.

The 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty between Washington and Manila remains “ironclad,” Blinken said at a joint press conference with his Philippines counterpart, Enrique Manalo, on Saturday.

We always stand by our partners… an armed attack on Philippines’ armed forces, public vessels, or aircraft in the South China Sea would invoke US mutual defense commitments under that treaty,” the top US diplomat said.

The whole country is like “ayo, hol up – armed attack???”

Besides discussing regional security issues with Foreign Secretary Manalo and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Blinken said they also spoke about deepening economic relations and “strengthening democracy.” Blinken has become the highest ranking US official to meet with the Philippines’ newly elected leader, a former dictator’s son, who was sworn in on June 30 after a landslide election victory earlier this year.

“The United States is committed to working collaboratively with the Philippines to defend the rule of the law, protect human rights and fundamental freedoms – including freedom of expression – and safeguard civil society,” Blinken said.

“In addition to working with the Philippines to help secure its maritime domain, we also partner with Filipino fishermen and scientific researchers to preserve and protect the Philippines’ precious maritime resources.”

Speaking to the press, Secretary Manalo also touted the two countries’ “common values and shared commitment to democracy,” and welcomed Washington’s “assurances” it was ready to recognize Manila as an “equal, sovereign partner.”

“We looked at strengthening our cooperation to better address current and emerging security threats and cross-cutting challenges,” he added obscurely, barely mentioning China in the context of the Philippines’ territorial and fishing disputes with Beijing.

Yeah, of course his statements are going to be obscure – the Philippines has been trying to back out of this US war agenda for years now, and Marcos (the son of a half-Chinese dictator) did not campaign on war with China.

For the record, he himself looks more ethnically Chinese than the average Filipino.

With these fishing rights issues – China has been relatively straightforward with the Philippines and Vietnam that their claim on the South China Sea does not override claims that other countries have with regards to fishing in international waters.

China doesn’t claim this territory because they want the fish. The US putting forward that the real concern is Filipino/Viet fish rights is just a scam. Either of these countries could say to China: “we want out of our entanglements with the US, we just want some guarantees on our fishing rights” and China would say “okay, deal – we’ll also go ahead and dump a bunch of money into your economies as well.”

Vietnam has a bunch of ancient blood feuds with the Chinese, because Vietnamese people are actually Chinese people, and have therefore had various wars with the Chinese over the last several hundred years. So they are going at this from a totally different angle than the Philippines, which does not have this history with the Chinese, and is just trying to be practical.

That said, it is a practical matter that there are thousands of US troops occupying the Philippines, a former US colony, and the Philippines needs to be careful in not being put in the middle of this dispute.

Blinken’s trip is effectively saying “congratulations – we’ve decided to put you at the center of our dispute with the Chinese.”

The Philippine people are not totally stupid, and there were huge protests against the Blinken war campaign visit.

Even if the fishing waters were legitimately being threatened, the Philippines fighting a war against China is a bizarre and extreme proposition, which is clearly not serious. If the Philippines had an independent foreign policy, their number one agenda would be making peace with the Chinese at any cost.
