A British woman was stabbed to death and her husband is in a critical condition after they were attacked during a shockingly violent home-raid in South Africa.
Christine Davis, 65, was stabbed in the neck and her partner Brian, 67, suffered horrific head injuries when burglars broke into their house in Knysna, on the southern coast of the country.
The couple were discovered yesterday morning when a friend spotted their dog wandering the streets of the town alone and went to investigate.
When neither answered phone calls or the doorbell, the friend walked into the garage and found Mr Davis on the ground bleeding badly from a head wound after apparently being battered with a blunt instrument.
Mrs Davis was later found slumped on the floor of her home with dreadful knife wounds to her neck.
Famed for its crystal clear waterfront and stunning wildlife, Knysa has regularly been seen as a tourist hotspot that attracts many British expats looking for a new life abroad.
The couple had moved to the South African town permanently from the UK.
Detective Warrant Officer Quine, investigating the murder, told Mirror Online: ‘We believe Mrs Davis was killed some time between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
