Amazon Used “Troll Army” to Promote Anti-Union Agenda on Twitter

Having an army of Twitter accounts is really a powerful thing. It is much more useful than advertisement as a way to affect public perception.

Daily Mail:

Amazon recruited a Twitter army that was code-named ‘Veritas’ whose members were picked for their ‘sense of humor’ – and their task was to defend Jeff Bezos’ reputation online.

The army was recruited in 2018 but reared its head again this week as workers at an Amazon fulfillment center in Alabama voted on whether to form a union amid complaints about working conditions.

On Twitter, the army has defended worker conditions and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and has even gone after the company’s biggest critics like Bernie Sanders, the liberal senator from Vermont.

They were told specifically to confront people on Twitter in a ‘blunt’ manner, according to an internal document about their training that was obtained by The Intercept.

The document was marked ‘Amazon.com confidential’ and titled ‘Global social CS Program Management.’

The problem with censorship is that Amazon is allowed to do this, while people who are opposed to Amazon are not allowed to do this.

Twitter allows Amazon to do it because Twitter and Amazon are friends.

The working conditions of Amazon employees are relatively low stakes. I mean, it sucks for them I’m sure, but this situation speaks to a larger problem, which is political. Domestic politics are shaped by social media deciding who is allowed to have influence.

In Uganda, Twitter and Facebook decided they wanted to do a regime change, and so before an election, they just started banning all of the accounts of the sitting government, while promoting opposition content. It’s known they did this in Uganda, because Uganda spoke up about it and banned social media from the country. But they’re doing this same thing around the world.

All of these revolutions that you see in countries that are not allied with the US government are manufactured by social media. People who have an agenda just get a bunch of accounts, and start spamming their agenda. Twitter and Facebook will work with people they like and ban people they don’t like, so as they are able to totally shape public perception.

You even see this in allied countries, when Silicon Valley wants to push a social agenda. You’ve seen it with the push for feminism in Latin America.

It is completely insane that any country allows this. It is also insane that the US allows it.

Who gave these companies this right to choose the nature of all societies on earth?
