Black Arrested for Triple Shooting That Killed Young White Man and Black Teen

A Hope Mills man has been arrested and charged in the triple shooting that killed two and left a juvenile injured on March 21.

Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputies on Wednesday arrested Sterling James Straughter, 20, of the 1900 block of Teesdale Drive in Hope Mills. He is charged with two counts of first degree murder and one charge of attempted first degree murder. He is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under no bond. His first court appearance is Friday at 9 a.m.

Deputies were called the the intersection of Ajax Drive and Tower Drive in Hope Mills for a triple shooting on March 21, just after 11:5 p.m. The shooting killed Cameron Emery, 16, and Franklin Monroe, 21. A female juvenile was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment.
