China Bans BBC! Threat to Society! Protecting the People from Thought Control

“Freedom of speech” is not a concept that should apply to government propaganda centers.

I think in an ultimate system of free speech, you would be able to allow government propaganda. But within a system where the news media is actively cracking down on independent voices, establishing a monopoly on reality itself, you cannot allow these government propaganda networks to operate.

RTHK.HK:

Beijing’s broadcasting regulator said in the early hours of Friday that it’s banned BBC World Service from Chinese territory for what state media described as “serious content violations” and RTHK has also decided to drop its live relay of the broadcaster.

The ban by mainland officials comes amid a dispute over the British broadcaster’s reporting of the treatment of Uyghur Muslims in Xinjang, and follows a decision by the British broadcasting regulator to cancel the licence of Beijing-backed CGTN.

The official Xinhua news agency quoted the National Radio and Television Administration as saying: “As the channel fails to meet the requirements to broadcast in China as an overseas channel, BBC World News is not allowed to continue its service within Chinese territory.

“The NRTA will not accept the channel’s broadcast application for the new year.”

In a statement, RTHK said it would stop relaying the BBC World Service from 11pm on Friday. The live relay used to run from 11pm every night until 7am the following day.

In an emailed statement, a BBC spokeswoman said: “We are disappointed that the Chinese authorities have decided to take this course of action.

“The BBC is the world’s most trusted international news broadcaster and reports on stories from around the world fairly, impartially and without fear or favour.”

No one believes that the BBC – literal government-funded media – operates without “favour.”

These people have an entire, aggressive arm of their media operation which is devoted to silencing people who disagree with them. Obviously, they don’t ever allow any sort of opposing views to be printed on their own networks.

The West has a brutal regime of censorship in their own countries, then they go to foreign countries and demand unlimited access to spread their disinformation.

Good job to China for pushing back against this. They are protecting the nation, and the people, and protecting freedom of thought and opinion by restricting this thought-control machine.

The single reason that China is the one country on earth that is not experiencing a full-on vagino-anal revolution is that they are protecting their internet from hostile disinformation from the Western establishment.

As a free speech absolutist, it’s been hard for me to come to terms with, personally – but these outlets are pro-censorship, and you can’t allow media that is actively working to suppress opposing views to operate with impunity.

Furthermore, freedom of speech should be for individuals, not multinational corporations. And these multinational corporations always use their freedom of speech to silence others.
