Finland: University of Helsinki Will Give Honorary Doctorate in Theology to Greta Thunberg

Her best sermon by far

This is, in fact, a true story.

I would think it would be offensive to joke about Greta being the leader of a religious cult. I’ve myself used the terms “Global Warming Theology” and “Gretaist Theology.”

Like, are they trolling her?

The College Fix:

The University of Helsinki announced Monday the institution will confer climate change activist Greta Thunberg with an honorary Doctorate of Theology.

In its news release, the Finland-based university called the honorary degree its “highest recognition,” and 20-year-old Thunberg of Sweden is one of 30 individuals set to be honored as part of the school’s annual graduation ceremonies this May.

The announcement came just one day before a Swedish court gave Thunberg and hundreds of other climate activists approval “to proceed with a class action lawsuit against the Swedish state for ‘insufficient climate policy,’” Reuters reported.

“Thunberg, and 600 other young activists in a group called Aurora, sued the Swedish state in November, claiming it had to do more to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius in order to live up to the European Convention on Human Rights,” the outlet reported Tuesday.

Theology is the traditional title of an honorary degree, but universities these days hand them out with all sorts of titles on them.

Plus it’s funny that virtually no one – especially not the morons who believe in global warming – would be aware of the history of honorary degrees, so anyone reading this is going to think that Helsinki is mocking Greta as the leader of a new religious movement.

Global warming is a new religious movement. That’s what makes it so funny.

Give this guy one too. He earned it.
