Considering he’s homeless, 15 years of free food and shelter probably sounds like a good deal to him.
The Gard Assize Court of Appeal sentenced Friday evening Abdennaceur Kilani, a 31-year-old Tunisian, to the sentence required by the Advocate General of 15 years of criminal imprisonment, as well as to a definitive ban from French territory. This man, assisted by Me Lemaire and Me Monzies was found guilty of having, on July 30, 2016 in Avignon, violently assaulted an Irish woman aged 25 to steal her handbag and then rape her. The victim, who had spent the night with friends in bars during the Festival d’Avignon, was attacked when she returned alone to the hall of her building on rue des infirmières. She was beaten with an anti-theft chain, punched and raped while unconscious. The accused, a homeless illegal immigrant arrested in Cannes almost a year after the facts, denied the rape and admitted, under the influence of a highly alcoholic state, to have stolen the bag from the young woman in minimizing violence.
