The German government has released a tongue-in-cheek ad hailing an unlikely hero in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic: the humble couch potato.
The 90-second video posted online Saturday begins with an elderly man recalling his ‘service’ to the nation back when he was just a young student “in the winter of 2020, when the whole country’s eyes were on us.”
“I had just turned 22 and was studying engineering,” he continues, “when the second wave hit.”
With violins stirring at viewers’ heart strings, the setting switches to a scene of the narrator as a young man.
“Suddenly the fate of this country lay in our hands,” he says. “So we mustered all our courage and did what was expected of us, the only right thing. We did nothing.”
“Days and nights we stayed on our backsides at home and fought against the spread of the coronavirus,” the narrator continues. “Our couch was the front line and our patience was our weapon.”
The ad ends with a government message that “you too can become a hero by staying at home.”
If people want to stay home, they should stay home!
No one ever tried to force anyone to leave their house! That never happened! These people are implying that happened and it is a lie! In every Western country, it is believed that if a person doesn’t want to leave their house, they have a right to stay there!
The problem is that these governments now all think that they are our mommies! What right do they have to decide what risks I am allowed to take??? I am a grown adult!
In free countries, grown adults are allowed to access the risks involved with an action and take that action if we decide we are willing to take on the risks!
We are allowed to risk:
- Dying of cigarette smoke
- Dying of obesity by eating processed food
- Dying in car crashes
- Drowning
- Dying in a hang gliding accident
- Getting eaten by sharks
- Falling down while mountain climbing (including free solo, which kills virtually everyone who does it!)
- Driving Japanese motorcycles that can hit speeds of 200 mph
We even allow homosexuals to practice gay sex, which in virtually every case leads to a collapse of their immune systems!

Even if the virus was actually deadly and killing young people, those young people – assuming they were adults – would have the right to make a decision about whether or not they want to take the risk of being infected with the virus!
It is a matter of principle that the government DOES NOT have a right to make our decisions for us!
Remember: when they started this lockdown agenda, they told us it was about “flattening the curve.” That meant that they were worried that the virus was so infectious that it would overload the hospitals. Whatever you think of that (and I don’t think much of it, especially since it turned out to be a hoax), it was a situation where your actions were going to potentially affect other people.
That is no longer the case. Right now, and ever since March of this year, any single lockdown order has been exclusively about protecting you from your own decisions.
This violates the basic concept that we have of why the government exists at all, and someone needs to start talking about this in these terms!
We have to have freedom!
