Greenland’s Largest Glacier is Not Melting. It’s Actually Getting More Frozen.

According to Climate Change (formerly Global Warming) ethos, glaciers are melting and the world is going to burn because cows fart and planes fly.

This glacier not melting and actually thickening goes against that.

BUT.

It’s obviously still a bad thing because the climate changing at all is inherently apocalyptic. What we need is for the glacier to stay exactly the same size forever.

CNN:

Greenland’s largest and most critical glacier, Jakobshavn, is gaining ice, according to NASA researchers.

Although this finding is surprising and temporarily good news for the glacier, limiting its contribution to sea level rise, the reason for the ice accumulation might spell disaster in the long run.

For two decades, Jakobshavn sustained remarkably consistent thinning that scientists thought would continue, if not accelerate, due to large-scale warming of the polar atmosphere and oceans — but that rate dramatically slowed in 2014, and the glacier actually thickened between 2016 and 2017 and again between 2017 and 2018, according to a study published Monday in the journal Nature.

At first we didn’t believe it,” said Ala Khazendar, the lead NASA scientist on the study. “We had pretty much assumed that Jakobshavn would just keep going on as it had over the last 20 years.”

Jakobshavn Isbrae, the full name of the glacier along Western Greenland’s coast, has been Greenland’s fastest-flowing and largest ice-losing glacier over the past 20 years, making it by far the single largest contributor to sea level rise on the large, mostly frozen island.

This is a reprieve,” Khazendar said of the recent thickening of Jakobshavn glacier, “not a resurrection.”

Scientists caution not to read too much into the news of one the most critical glaciers in the world suddenly, and unexpectedly, gaining ice.

The response of a single glacier does not imply that things have shifted,” said Marco Tedesco, a research professor with Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.

“Greenland is currently [losing] about 270 gigatons (a gigaton is a billion tons) of ice per year…its mass loss has been accelerating over the past decades, with Greenland being the single largest contributor to sea level rise,” Tedesco, who was not involved in the new research, wrote in an email.

These Climate Apocalypse enthusiasts believe the climate has to be exactly the same at every point every year and that everything climate-related has to be predictable with absolute certainty even though they can’t even predict their next bowel movement. If climate can’t be predicted with absolute certainty, they blame people and cows.

The thing is that nothing that they’ve proposed to fix the alleged problem and to stop the Climate Apocalypse from happening is doable.

It just isn’t going to work.

Even if white countries commit economic suicide and go through these Green New Deal type of plans, the rest of the world won’t follow suit, and the rest of the world doesn’t care about the climate not being exactly the same at every point of the year every year.

What they should be doing instead, if they really wanted to prevent the Climate Apocalypse, or at least if they wanted to save as many people as possible from it, is to plan how to survive through the thing.

They should start producing How to Survive the Climate Apocalypse documents.

The climate has been changing way before cows started to fart and planes started to fly. Ice ages and mass extinctions may happen again. Nothing suggests those won’t happen again just as nothing suggests those can be stopped, so why not prepare ourselves accordingly?

Wasting time fighting the inevitable is suicidal.

We should instead be focusing on dealing with the inevitable.
