I Like the 280 Character Limit on Twitter. 4000 is Way Too Long.

Elon Musk has confirmed that he is going to drastically expand the maximum length of tweets from 280 characters to 4000 characters.

Since being permitted back on the platform last week, I’ve come to love the 280 character limit, and do not think it should change.

As you know, dear reader, I’m prone to verbosity. The Twitter limit forces me to think in a different way, in short bursts or squibs. It’s very good for basic communication on a mass scale, and if tweets were to be lengthened, it would take a lot away.

You can already post threads, which is also an interesting, unique framework for expression.

If people need something longer, then Twitter should just add a separate option for people to do blogging. They can then link to those blogs from their main Twitter account, or tweet out links to blog posts. Something very special about the site would be lost if the character limit was just increased across the site.
