Justin Trudeau Declares Martial Law to Shut Down Truckers

It was always going to come to this.

There is just no way to move these trucks.

By the way, this used to be called the “War Powers Act.”

It is martial law.

RT:

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act for the first time in Canadian history on Monday, citing the threat of “Freedom Convoy” trucker protests in Ottawa and at several border crossings in the US.

“This is not a peaceful protest,” Trudeau said in a speech on Monday afternoon, adding that “illegal blockades” have been “disrupting the lives of too many Canadians.”

After consulting premiers, government and opposition, “the federal government has invoked the Emergencies Act,” Trudeau said, confirming media reports from earlier in the day that he would do so.

To be fair, blockading international trade is an actual act of war. When they started blocking these US trade routes, it became a lot different than when they parked in Ottawa and honked.

Of course, I think it’s pretty easy to argue that the coronavirus measures, including and especially the forced vax, were themselves an act of war against the population by the government.

The measures will be “time-limited, geographically targeted, as well as reasonable and proportionate to the threats they are meant to address,” the PM said. It does not involve calling in the military, or suspending fundamental rights and freedoms.

“This is about keeping Canadians safe, protecting people’s jobs, and restoring confidence in our institutions,” he said. “We are reinforcing the principles, values and institutions that keep all Canadians free.”

“Martial law is about freedom” is a really wacky statement.

Safety, I can understand as an explanation of martial law. Though the blockades didn’t make anyone unsafe.

Trudeau noted that it was the first time a Canadian government has invoked the Emergencies Act, which was passed in 1988 to replace the War Measures Act of 1914. The WMA was used during both world wars to intern Canadians of German and Japanese origin and impose restrictions on the economy, among other things. It was most recently invoked in 1970 by Trudeau’s father Pierre to crack down on Quebec separatists who had kidnapped a lawmaker. Close to 500 people had been arrested on that occasion.

Thousands of Canadian truck drivers and their sympathizers have taken part in nationwide protests since January 22, with a “Freedom Convoy” driving across the country to picket the parliament in Ottawa starting on January 29. The protesters demand an end to Covid-19 vaccine and mask mandates.

I think it’s fair enough at this point to refer to Pierre as Justin’s “alleged father.”

There is a lot of evidence that his mother did in fact have an affair with Fidel Castro.

He sure looks a lot like him.

But hey – whatever.

Not really the point.

The point is HONK HONK.

All attempts to contact Megatron have failed.

Optimus Prime lives.

Along with sending in the military (or “militarized police”), though this sure looks like “the military” to me…

…Along with that, these emergency powers are also being used to shut down any and all funding to the truckers. They’re saying they’re going to freeze the bank accounts of anyone who donates.

I don’t know how they’re going to stop the crypto donations, but they’re saying they’re going to stop those too.

I think ultimately, this will “work.”

But these are very bad optics for a country that keeps talking about how “free” it is.

I hope the truckers are all using Signal, with the auto-delete function. Because hundreds or thousands of them are going to be brought up on charges, and as little paper trail as possible is what you want.

What I really hope doesn’t happen is that the truckers all take the wheels off of their trucks and make them completely impossible to move, so that it takes months for the government to remove these trucks.

That would be so sad.

This is the biggest possible win for the people, frankly.

A major Western government is effectively admitting that their rule is totally illegitimate, and can only be maintained using violence.
