Angela defends Donald! Shocker!
German Chancellor Angela Merkel believes that the decision by social media giants to permanently suspend Donald Trump’s accounts is problematic because freedom of opinion should not be determined by such online platform bosses, her spokesman said Monday.
“The fundamental right to freedom of opinion is a fundamental right of elementary importance, and this fundamental right can be interfered with, but through the law and within the framework defined by the legislature, not according to the decision of the management of social media platforms,” said Mrs Merkel’s spokesman, Steffen Seibert.
“From this point of view, the Chancellor considers it problematic that the accounts of the US president have been permanently blocked.”
He said that lies or incitement to violence were also “very problematic”, but that the path to dealing with them should be for the state to draw up a legal regulatory framework.
Completely blocking out views by halting the account is a step too far, the spokesman said, but added that he backed action taken by social media in recent months to flag false claims.
According to several sources inside the White House, as soon as Donald Trump heard that Angela Merkel was defending him against his Twitter ban, he turned on Garth Brooks’ “I Got Friends in Low Places,” and demanded that everyone in the Oval Office sing along with him.
Rudy Giuliani is said by sources to have been particularly enthusiastic about singing the classic nu-country tune, spilling red wine all over this shirt and then tripping over a couch and screaming “wooooo.”
Yeah but no – seriously though.
Let me tell you what she is actually saying:
Germany is a country with “hate speech” laws. It is illegal in Germany to question why Jews control everything. It is also illegal to ask how, if six million Jews were gassed and cremated during World War II, there is no evidence of it. It is literally illegal to suggest that someone go to Poland with a shovel and see if they can find the ashes of some six million Jews that never existed.
All kinds of other things are illegal as well. Like, you’re not allowed to share mainstream news stories about immigrant gang rapes. You’re not allowed to quote Bible verses against homosexuality. And so on.
What Merkel is saying is that a private company shouldn’t be the one that decides.
What she is pushing for is this: an international body, run presumably by the United Nations, that regulates speech on the internet, worldwide. That will have the same rules as Germany and other European countries currently have: you can’t question Jews, you can’t ask about the Holocaust, you can’t report on the crimes of nonwhites.
She is not “defending free speech.”
Just so you understand.
