Mexicans have yet to realize that Mexico is the real Land of Opportunity — if you join a cartel, you can do pretty much whatever you want.
New data released by the Mexican government on Monday shows that more than 60,000 people have gone missing since officials unleashed its war on drug in 2006.
Under then-President Felipe Calderón, Mexico launched an offensive against drug cartels and other criminal groups in 2006, sending federal troops to clean up his home state of Michoacan.
The all-out offensive to root out organized criminal organizations has since left the country with more than 200,000 murders, which President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has blamed his predecessors for.
Stats dating back to 1964 show that a total of 147,033 missing persons have been reported in the country and that authorities found 85,396 bodies.
Of the 61,637 people that are still missing, 60,053 disappeared since 2006.

Officials also said that a national search effort to find tens of thousands missing people in the country has so far yielded 1,124 corpses in 873 clandestine mass graves.
The government has set up DNA databases to help identify bodies, but the majority of bodies found in clandestine burial pits still go unidentified.
Historically, the highest number of missing – and largest number of body pits – have been registered in the northern border state of Tamaulipas.
Such unmarked pits are frequently used by drug and kidnapping gangs to dispose of the bodies of their victims or rivals.

In September, authorities came across 119 bags with human remains in Zapopan, Jalisco. Forensic experts were able to piece together 41 bodies.

Government data released December 30 showed 2019 was the third deadliest year of the recently concluded decade in Ciudad Juárez.
At least 1,498 people were murdered in the border city that sits right across El Paso, Texas.
Don’t forget Mexican kids pretending to be sicarios and playing some kind of kidnapping and beheading game.
People there are used to randomly finding human body parts on the streets.
