Of the top 13 contestants, only one was ethnically European, a French girl called Iris Mittenaere. However, she somehow overcame the Miss Helsinki problem and managed to win nonetheless. Or maybe she got sympathy points for being an “ethnic minority”.
Asked the usual daft questions about “helping the world, etc.”, she replied that countries had the right to close their borders. But somehow these remarks were presented in such a way as to make it sound like exactly the opposite. The crowd cheers when they hear the bit about there being open borders currently then her remark about our right to close them is drowned out.
