On Monday, March 23, 2020, at approximately 10:58 p.m., patrol officers responded to a shooting call in the 11600 block of Dennis Road. Upon officers’ arrival, they found the victim, Jeremy Michael Averett, a 22-year old White male, slumped in the drivers’ seat with a gunshot wound to his upper right chest area. Dallas Fire-Rescue responded and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
During the preliminary investigation, homicide detectives developed a suspect, Eissa Yanouri-Roa, a 19-year old Black male at another local hospital with a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen and hip area. After being released from the hospital, he was transported to the Homicide Unit for interview purposes. The suspect refused to give a statement, and he was immediately transported to the Dallas County Jail, where he was charged with murder.
