National Action staged a successful demonstration against grooming gangs operating in the Normanton area. We received complaints from concerned locals that a taxi firm was being used as a gathering point for Muslim groomers and from further research we learned that the firm was hiring convicted sex offenders. Armed with this information, we set around organising a day of action against these scum.

This we did, on Saturday, 6th September, nearly 25 NA activists met at Leeds train station where we boarded a train to Normanton and met with a number of locals. We proceeded to the intended site of our demonstration – outside the taxi firms office. However, our presence had been noted by a pair of PCSO’s who took it upon themselves to follow our activists. When it became apparent where we were headed, the PCSO’s called for backup.

When at the taxi firms location, it was anticipated that the police might attempt to kettle; so the static element of the protest was kept brief. Leaflets were delivered to the streets adjacent to the office and banners were unfurled. We attempted to make contact with the management but no one would come out and answer our questions. We then carried out a spontaneous march through the residential estate this taxi firm was based in: delivering leaflets and shouting slogans as we went along, the response from local residents was incredibly positive. With people in cars, on bikes and in their gardens all gesturing their approval.

Once the estate had been combed, we headed back to the train station. The police maintained a heavy presence but were unable to prevent our free movement through the town. We even succeeded in holding an impromptu rally outside the local ASDA supermarket, where we were able to interact with shoppers and be seen by a sufficiently large crowd of people.

Concluding our activity in Normanton there, the core group headed back into Leeds where we paid quick visits to Mandela Gardens and Leeds University, before ending the day with a symbolic act of defiance against the Israeli state – the burning of their flag. Needless to say, NA is both against the presence and domination of Islam and Zionism in our country.
