French police earlier this week were forced to shoot an Afghan migrant dead in the infamous no-go suburb of Paris after he attacked them with a knife.
The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon at around 4:30 pm when police officers patrolling the Seine-Saint-Denis area came across the Afghan man who was wielding a “long knife”, French weekly newspaper Le Point reports.
When the knife-wielding Afghan lunged at the police, officers fired “several times” in self-defense, the police prefecture said. One of the officers who was involved in the incident suffered an injury to his shoulder and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.
A motive for the attack is still uncertain, as police have only just begun the primary stages of the investigation.
“No leads are ruled out, but, a priori, no terrorist comments were made,” a source inside the police prefecture said.
