Well, today is the day.
We’ve been waiting for so many years, that it is hard to believe that it is finally happening: Cyberpunk 2077 will be released at 7 PM EST.
Here’s the thing: some people have it already, and the word is that the game actually sucks.
I haven’t watched any of the footage, because I thought “hey, I’m gonna get to play it in a few days, no reason to spoil it now.”
But I will tell you: it would be the funniest thing ever if this game came out after all of these years of buildup and it turned out to just be a total piece of crap.
I would be minimally disappointed, frankly. I’m excited about the game, but whatever. I don’t really like action games as a rule, as I’d rather sit around playing RimWorld or any legit CRPG.
The joy I would get from the hilarity of the game sucking would much, much outweigh whatever disappointment I would feel.
Also, probably, it would be best if it sucked, because if it’s really good, it could serve to pacify people in this time when people need to be as active as they’ve ever been.
Frankly, I’m not sure this isn’t reverse hype, all these people coming out the week it’s released and saying it sucks. But I’m excited to find out, either way.
Suck or blow, we’ll be here at 7 PM EST with a livestream of the game.
Leo Fong is playing, and he’s told me that he’ll be creating a Black Lives Matter character, and that this character will be based on the real life BLM movement, “fabricating counterstroke upon the chalky taskmaster and initiating the confounded hostility.”
I’m sure it will be a fun stream, regardless of how good the game is.
Be here at 7 PM to get the link.
(Realistically, Fong will probably have to download a day zero update that will push it back several tens of minutes.)
