Sweden: Iraqi Immigrant Convicted of Raping Homeless Woman on Streets of Gothenburg

What’s ironic that he’s now going to spend time in a Swedish prison-hotel while the victim is presumably going to remain homeless.

Voice of Europe:

A Swedish court late last month convicted Iraqi migrant of raping a homeless woman on the streets of Gothenburg at the beginning of this year.

After convicting the 41-year-old Iraqi migrant, the Gothenburg District Court handed him the minimum sentence for rape: two years in prison.

According to the victim, the incident took place on January 29th, 2020 after the migrant approached her as she was waiting for the tram. During an interview with police, the victim explained how the Iraqi man at first appeared to have pure intentions, offering her a shirt since she seemed cold.

However, as the two hopped on the tram to head to Järntorget, the mood became a bit more tense as the migrant repeatedly propositioned her for sex. After arriving at her destination, he followed her off of the tram and continued pressing the issue. Finally, he lost his temper and attempted to overpower the her.

In the middle of the struggle, the victim managed to kick the man in the crotch hard enough which made him back off. When the migrant was leaving the scene, he allegedly told the victim that no one believe her because she’s homeless.

The perpetrator was seen leaving the scene by a female witness who had heard a “desperate scream”. Upon further investigation, the witness found the victim who was on the phone with police, disheveled with an open blouse.
