Teenaper Turns Himself in After Shooting White Woman in the Back of a Pickup Truck

One woman is dead following a shooting in the Red Springs area of Robeson County Monday, according to Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins.

Investigators say around 4:47 p.m., deputies were called to 17438 Highway 71 North Lumber Bridge in reference to a person shot.

April Oxendine, 45, of Shannon, was found dead in the back seat of a pickup truck when deputies arrived on scene. Further investigation determined the shooting happened on Russell Road in Shannon, according to RCSO.

Investigators say at the time of the shooting, the pickup was being driven by Winston Oxendine, 39, of Raeford. Monica McLean, 51, of Shannon was also in the vehicle.

Witnesses said they heard gunshots but couldn’t tell where they were coming from.

Ronchelle Raquan Lewis, 18, of Fayetteville, is charged in connection to the death of April Oxendine. He is charged with first-degree murder, discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to RCSO.

Additionally, deputies say Lewis was wanted in Cumberland County for felony probation violation, assault by pointing a gun, communicating threats and resisting a public officer.

Lewis turned himself in after midnight Tuesday morning to Robeson County deputies.
