President Trump makes a fool of Cassidy Hutchinson and her phony, fake story about ketchup-stained walls in the White House and Trump struggling for the wheel in the Beast on January 6. pic.twitter.com/oZJbIjvFbo

I was kinda hoping that Donald Trump would just lean into the story about how he grabbed the wheel and started strangling Secret Service agents who refused to take him to the Capitol on January 6.
At CPAC, however, he did a pretty funny bit about it. He said “I kinda like this story because it makes me feel strong.” He then talked about the claim he was throwing food at the wall, saying “I would never do that, I have too much respect for the White House, but at least that you could kinda believe.”
Overall, Trump’s CPAC speech was not bad.
People keep asking me why I support him in 2024, and the obvious reasons are:
- He’s funny, and
- There is no one else
I personally don’t think a 2024 victory is possible, at least not unless something drastically changes, so I’m more concerned about the candidate being someone funny who is going to say things that actually matter during the campaign and debates and so on. You’re not going to get that from Ron DeSantis or Ted Cruz, who are both just total company men.
But yeah, that’s the bottom line: I support him because there is no one else to support and there is no reason to not support anyone. You have to do serious mental gymnastics to come to the conclusion that it is a good idea to have no commentary at all on the most influential events of politics. Even if you believed the whole thing was fake, you would still engage with it in order to be able to communicate your own talking points. There are zero reasons not to do so.
Here’s Trump’s full speech at CPAC in Texas on Saturday night.
