I rarely read Twitter at all, because I – like most every other right-winger who isn’t considered an asset to the media establishment – am long-banned from the platform, and it really isn’t friendly to readers who do not have an account. However, in my scant interactions with the site, I have become intimately aware of one group that is not banned: scummy bitcoin bots.
The bots upvote each other and talk about how they’re getting free bitcoins from other bots.
It’s a basic scam, where they tell people if they give them a small amount of bitcoin, they will receive a much larger amount.
Wired covered this bitcoin bot scam issue last year, and tried to give an explanation for why Twitter can’t ever stop it – yet somehow, they’ve been able to stop every other bot scam, and are in fact able to viciously crack down on political dissidents who are real people just trying to use the platform as it was intended to be used.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is a bitcoin shill who appeared to engage in securities fraud on the Joe Rogan show earlier this year by pumping bitcoin on a broadcast of which his bitcoin app – the Cash App – is the biggest sponsor without disclosing that relationship.
Probably, Twitter’s decision not to ban this obvious and endless spam probably is a part of some scam Dorsey is running, though I don’t really see how allowing scummy bot scam-spam benefits the bitcoin agenda. Unless he himself is running this scam in order to try to make a little extra money on the side, which I guess is possible, given that he is such a weird scumbag.
