Finally, someone is sticking up for the oppression of the press.
Former Fox News anchor Shepard Smith railed against authoritarian governments who are making it difficult and dangerous for a free press in his first public words since leaving the network last month.
Smith, a frequent on-air Trump critic during his Fox tenure, urged for press protection in his passionate speech as host of the 2019 International Press Freedom Awards in New York City Thursday.
“Intimidation and vilification of the press is now a global phenomena,” said Smith, alluding to, but never mentioning President Donald Trump in his speech. “We don’t have to look far for evidence of that.”
I sure as heck don’t have to look far, you slimy cocksucker.
I know this journalist who’s published opinions that are unpopular with an authoritarian government, and he had a number of different problems.
Those have included:
- His being vilified as evil for stating unpopular opinions and reporting information unpopular with said authoritarian regime
- His having all his financial services shut down
- His being sued with SLAPP suits that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to defend against (pointlessly)
- His being banned from all social media
- His having all of his web services shut down by every American company
- His family being targeted for endless harassment
- His being harassed by feds
- His becoming the subject of a global manhunt by state-backed establishment fake news journalists
So yes, I’d say we have a deadly serious problem with press freedom in certain countries with authoritarian governments.
And it isn’t that an Orange Man is making fun of lying kikes from CNN.
