We knew that Facebook was simply pretending not to want to censor the president to make it look as though there isn’t a unified censorship agenda in the tech industry.
Facebook and Twitter are both taking action after a video shared by President Trump they say contains misinformation about the coronavirus.
“This video includes false claims that a group of people is immune from COVID-19 which is a violation of our policies around harmful COVID misinformation,” Facebook spokesperson Liz Bourgeois told Fox News in a statement.
In the removed video, the president told Fox & Friends that schools should remain open.
“My view is that schools should be open,” Trump said. “If you look at children, children are almost — and I would almost say definitely — but almost immune from this disease.”
He added that children have “much stronger immune systems” and “just don’t have a problem.”
According to Facebook, this is the first time the social media platform has taken down a post from the president regarding misinformation about the coronavirus pandemic.
It was not immediately clear if all posts containing the video have been removed.
The move comes as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has faced increased scrutiny to crack down on misinformation since the 2016 election, with a long list of companies that have threatened to pull advertising on the platform.
This is the full interview, which is still up on the Fox News YouTube channel.
I assume YouTube will take it down soon, or force Fox to edit out the statement which the tech monopolies have decided the American people are too infantile to hear and make their own decisions about.
Understand that this is what they are telling you, and that is what censorship is by definition: they are saying that you, the individual, are so pathetic that you are incapable of digesting information, so they have to protect you from certain kinds of information that may lead to you becoming confused.
It is a horrible nightmare to be ruled by a people who have this level of contempt for you.
Of course, in the bigger picture, they are just looking for any reason to censor Trump, because they want to make it impossible for him to win the 2020 election. “You’re a fragile child who can’t process information, so we have to protect you from it” is simply the excuse they are using.
Either thing should make people really angry.
For me though, I’m most angry about the fact that while all of this is going on, Trump is out there attacking TikTok, a social media company that has never censored him. He is attacking them because they’ve stolen a market share from these companies that are censoring him. He is doing this attack on TikTok to help these companies which are working to destroy him, while doing absolutely nothing to stop Facebook and Twitter.
Even if you say “he can’t stop Facebook and Twitter” – okay, well, my response to that is that all of the energy he is putting into fighting TikTok should be put into trying to figure out ways to fight Facebook and Twitter. All of his public statements about TikTok should be public statements about Facebook and Twitter.
He should call a national referendum: “Do you think tech monopolies should be able to decide arbitrarily what you are allowed to say and think: yes or no?”
So: I am saving my anger for Trump himself, not Facebook and Twitter. I do not think he wants to win this election, and this election is not about him, it is about the future of our country and the future of Western civilization as a whole. He does not have a right to lose it.
Trump campaign spokesperson Courtney Parella told Fox News: “Social media companies are not the arbiters of truth.”
This is obviously false. They are the arbiters of truth, because they are playing that role. If you don’t think they should be the arbiters of truth, you’re going to have to do something about it.
But no one is doing anything about it.
Instead, we’re doing a pirate operation against TikTok.
