Just Do Something? Trump Bans Travel from Europe for Some Reason

So, we had direct flights coming in from Wuhan Airport for nearly a month after China had banned people from leaving Wuhan to go to other parts of China.

But now all of a sudden Trump has decided to ban travel from Europe.

Because…?

Reuters:

Travelers scrambled to rebook flights and global markets reeled on Thursday after U.S. President Donald Trump imposed sweeping restrictions on travel from Europe, hitting battered airlines and further straining ties with the continent.

Trump ordered travel from Europe to the United States restricted for 30 days, responding to mounting pressure to take action against a rapidly spreading coronavirus outbreak disrupting nearly all corners of U.S. daily life.

“We are marshaling the full power of the federal government and the private sector to protect the American people,” Trump said in a prime-time televised address from the Oval Office on Wednesday.

“This is the most aggressive and comprehensive effort to confront a foreign virus in modern history.”

The travel order, which starts at midnight on Friday, does not apply to Britain, or to Americans undergoing “appropriate screenings,” Trump said.

After triggering confusion by suggesting trade with Europe would also be suspended, Trump clarified that “trade will in no way be affected.”

The virus is already in America.

We have over a thousand confirmed cases.

Excluding Italy, Europe isn’t any worse off.

Wednesday numbers (deaths in red)

And Italy is already locked down.

So, I just can’t even hardly understand the point of this.

It is the Trump “just do something” strategy at work.

The liberals attacking Trump over this virus actually have a point.

Why are there no tests?

Are they really this incompetent?

They keep saying “they’re on the way,” and they do not deliver.

The CDC was the only body capable of doing tests, and now they’re saying they have provided private clinics with that ability, but this plan has yet to materialize.

I think it’s possible that they’re purposefully avoiding widespread testing:

  1. It is almost impossible to believe that even the US Government is this incompetent, and
  2. It isn’t even a matter of logistics, all the CDC would have to do is send out the tests (every other country is doing tests)

At time of writing, the official number of cases in the US is just over 1200.

But we could already have ten times that.

Or twenty times that.

No one actually has any idea.

What Trump Should Have Done

Trump should have done a lot of things leading up to this point, but what he should have done this week is start physically quarantining cities that are infected. That is, the places with the most red on that map above. The military should be sent in and people should be disallowed to be on the street without masks. All domestic flights should be shut down.

Basically, we have already seen China stop this virus. What we need to do is what China did.

This is obvious. We have a roadmap here. All we have to do is do it.

Instead, Trump goes up there talking about a “foreign virus” and bans Europeans – who are not coming here anyway – while making an exception for the British and American citizens in Europe.
