People Disagree with Great Satan Because China Spends Billions on “Disinformation” Campaign, US Envoy Says

Wait, so now it’s China doing the disinformation?

The Guardian:

The west has been slow to respond to China spending billions globally to spread poisonous disinformation, including messaging that is completely aligned with Russia on Ukraine, a US special envoy has claimed.

James Rubin, a coordinator for the Global Engagement Center, a US state department body set up to “expose and counter” foreign propaganda and disinformation, made the remarks during a European tour this week.

Rubin, huh?

It’s just so, so very tiresome.

The well has been poisoned by Chinese and Russian disinformation – it’s pernicious,” said Rubin, a broadcaster and former official in the Clinton administration and broadcaster.

Six weeks into the job, he said his aim was not just a passive rebuttal of Russian-Chinese disinformation on Ukraine but to go on the active offensive by urging countries not to harbour those that have been exposed for spreading disinformation.

He claimed Russia and China were spending billions of dollars in an effort to manipulate information but said Beijing was operating globally and spending more than Moscow.

Rubin admitted frustration that “some countries in the global south can’t even admit that it’s an invasion, let alone decide which side they are on”.

I’m so sick of this shit. It is utterly dehumanizing for these people to claim that it is only possible to disagree with them if you’ve been brainwashed. It’s not a normal approach to disagreement – to assume that you are right about everything, because you dictate reality, and anyone who disagrees with you is therefore either ontologically evil or brainwashed by ontologically evil people.

Further, there is no Russian or Chinese disinformation. I’m not aware of it anywhere. There is RT (Russia Today), but it is largely just basic facts, and anyway, it’s not read by very many Americans.

Most Americans who disagree with American policy simply look at the policy and find it stupid or psychopathic. You don’t have to know anything about the Ukraine to know that sending hundreds of billions of dollars to a foreign country to push an ideological agenda while people at home are living on the streets, dying of drugs, and getting poison gassed, is not a good policy for a government to have.
