Mitch McConnell spent his entire life getting cockblocked.
Eventually, he gave up and went the cheaters’ route: he married a gook.
Now: it’s Mitch’s turn to do the cockblocking.
And when a power-mad dope like Mitch McConnell starts cockblocking, entire nations get blueballs.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday blocked consideration of a House bill that would deliver $2,000 stimulus payments to most Americans — spurning a request by President Trump even as more Senate Republicans voiced support for the dramatically larger checks.
McConnell’s move was just the beginning of a saga that is likely to engulf the Senate for the rest of the week. Democrats are pushing for an up-or-down vote on the House bill, while more Republicans acknowledge a need for larger stimulus checks.
Proponents include Georgia’s two embattled Republican senators — David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler — who find themselves in tough reelection battles that will decide the fate of the chamber next week. GOP Sen. Deb Fischer of Nebraska also lent support Tuesday, declaring that “people are hurting and we need to get them more aid.”
McConnell instead took note of Trump’s Sunday statement that called for not only larger checks but also new curbs on large tech companies and an investigation into the November election, and he suggested they would be dealt with in tandem. That tech provision is commonly referred to as “Section 230.”
“Those are the three important subjects the president has linked together,” he said. “This week the Senate will begin a process to bring these three priorities into focus.”
As pressure mounted on Tuesday, Trump weighed in again through Twitter, demanding that Senate Republicans immediately pass legislation that would authorize the larger checks. He said there would be consequences for the party if they didn’t act.
“Unless Republicans have a death wish, and it is also the right thing to do, they must approve the $2000 payments ASAP,” Trump wrote. “$600 IS NOT ENOUGH! Also, get rid of Section 230 – Don’t let Big Tech steal our Country, and don’t let the Democrats steal the Presidential Election. Get tough!”
Republicans apparently do have a death wish. Or rather, their bosses have a death wish for them.
It was confusing how the Democrat Party could ever rule the country, given that they are so horrible and so widely disliked. Finally, the plan is coming into focus: make them look better in contrast to a party that is even more disliked.
Politicians would have all sorts of various obvious reasons to cockblock restrictions on the tech industry, or an end to wars, or several other things Trump has tried to do. Primarily, it would be that our entire government is controlled by monied special interests. It is terrible that we are buried in this level of corruption, but it is what it is, and we understand what is going on with that.
But the only possible reason that the Republicans would block this money bill would be if they wanted people to hate them. Again, I have to stress: there is no principle that they are defending. They signed off on giving all kinds of money to basically everyone on earth. The bill last week gives $85 million to Cambodia, a country that I doubt one in 1,000 Americans could find on a map, or even name the continent it is on. So it’s not like they have some really hardcore unwavering principle against giving people free money. They are just saying, very specifically, that you can’t have money.
Again: this is after they supported the forced shutdown of the economy, which caused basically everyone’s business to go under. They can say giving people money is “socialism,” but it simply does not make any sense.
This would be like if a guy rear-ends you on the highway, then gets out of the car and starts smashing all your windows in with a baseball bat. Then when the cops show up, and ask the guy if he has insurance, he says, “oh, so this guy wants me to pay to fix his car?” and the cops are like, “well, you destroyed his car,” and the guy says, “he needs to learn to take care of his own life, and fix his own car. I’m not responsible for this guy’s problems.”
There is absolutely nothing wrong with expecting the government to do something after it came into your life and forcibly destroyed your ability to make money. Obviously, they should do something, and $2,000 or even $20,000 wouldn’t be enough to cover what they’ve destroyed.
This is the endgame: someone is telling these Republicans to stand against this money, and they are telling them to do that so that the Republican Party collapses in on itself. The Democrats are looking at a very serious problem, going into power with so little support, and this makes them look much better in comparison. The Republicans look simply hateful and deranged, stopping people whose lives they’ve completely destroyed from getting just a little bit of money. They look like actual unhinged maniacs.
It has to be on purpose. It’s just too weird otherwise. And it totally makes sense that it’s on purpose. It’s Occam’s Razor.
