I’m so very tired of the TikTok story.
It is so unbelievably disheartening that while these social media companies are involved in a conspiracy to destroy Donald Trump, while they are actively censoring him and all of his supporters, he is working to destroy their competition for them.
I wish that I could get some traction saying this publicly. But of course I cannot, because I am utterly and completely censored by the selfsame internet monopolies that Donald Trump is helping by banning TikTok.
NPR:
A plan to save popular video-sharing app TikTok in the U.S. is taking shape behind closed doors in Washington, though President Trump cast fresh doubt Wednesday that the deal as it stands would satisfy the White House.
The urgent talks are happening with only days to go before Trump’s executive order to shut down TikTok’s business in the U.S. will take effect.
Software company Oracle beat out a competing proposal from Microsoft to keep TikTok alive, but its offer would not be an outright acquisition. Rather, Oracle, a database and cloud storage company, says it will be TikTok’s “trusted technology partner,” a relationship yet to be clearly defined.
Trump on Wednesday told reporters that he wants to see an agreement in which ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, loses its majority stake in the app, in order to address the administration’s data privacy and national security concerns.
“Conceptually, I can tell you, I don’t like that,” Trump said of Beijing-based ByteDance’s majority ownership. “If that’s the case, I’m not going to be happy with that.”
The president’s insistence that ByteDance forfeit its majority ownership comes in the face of multiple reports indicating that ByteDance is demanding it retain its ownership position in the app, which has more than 700 million monthly active users.
Trump said his next briefing on the future of TikTok is Thursday.
The president, who had floated the idea that the U.S. Treasury should get a cut of whatever TikTok deal the U.S. approves, acknowledged to reporters that he has been informed that “there’s no legal path to doing that.”
I’ve gone into the details of how stupid the privacy violations claims are. I don’t think there is any need to go into them, however. Because everyone has some understanding of how badly Facebook and Google violate people’s privacy.
It needs to be understood that Trump is actively working against his own interests, because he is being given horrible advice. Just imagine the basic thing: if he bans TikTok before the election, how many teenagers are going to be whining to their parents that mean old grinch Trump banned their favorite app? Why would he put himself in that situation, for the apparent purpose of removing the competition of people who are involved in a conspiracy to remove him from office?
It’s mind-numbing to even think about it.
The fact of the matter is, you can’t expect Trump to understand everything, and he is surrounded by rats. Mike Pompeo, who is an agent of Israel, is telling him to fight China. So Trump is doing this TikTok thing because of that, I guess.
Honestly, I don’t know what he’s thinking. I don’t know why anyone would care about helping Facebook, and basically, Donald Trump is using his presidency to do charity work for Facebook, and obviously engaging in violating both American and international law while doing so.
If Trump just hates Chinese people or whatever, he should get rid of Mike Pompeo and go back to his plan of moving manufacturing back to America.
It’s just so fundamentally exhausting to have him publicly and aggressively working against his own interests, while we are all counting on him.
