Trump’s Weird Aggression Against Iran and Iraq has Been Good for Bernie

You know, I predicted that if Donald Trump escalated tensions in the Middle East, Bernie would become the frontrunner.

I wish I kept better records of my predictions, so I could link the articles. But the regular reader will remember I said this repeatedly.

Des Moines Register:

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders leads the Democratic field three weeks ahead of Caucus Day in Iowa — narrowly overtaking his closest competitors, who remain locked in a tight contest just behind him.

A new Des Moines Register/CNN/Mediacom Iowa Poll shows 20% of likely Democratic caucusgoers name Sanders as their first choice for president.

After a surge of enthusiasm that pushed Pete Buttigieg to the top of the field in November, the former South Bend, Indiana, mayor has faded, falling 9 percentage points to land behind both Sanders and U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren. Warren is at 17%; Buttigieg, 16%; and former Vice President Joe Biden, 15%.

Bernie is playing up the war thing big time (it really is an issue he is as good on as Trump was in 2016 – even better, in fact, because Trump said all that stuff about the Iran deal in 2016).

He’s introduced a bill.

CNN:

Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah has agreed to co-sponsor Sen. Bernie Sanders’ legislation that would freeze funding for any military action in Iran without express approval from Congress.

Sanders, a Vermont independent who’s running for the Democratic presidential nomination, introduced the bill shortly after the Trump administration held a classified briefing in which advisers outlined the case for their military strike last week that killed Iranian Gen. Qasem Soleimani.

Sanders was sharply critical of the briefing, saying afterward that the administration’s briefers gave no proof of any imminent attack by Iran against US targets.

“They are justifying the assassination of Qasem Soleimani by claiming that he was planning ‘imminent attacks’ on hundreds of Americans in the region and yet they produced no evidence that would justify this claim, not even in a classified setting,” Sanders said in a statement.

Worse than that – they haven’t even presented a theoretical reason why Soleimani would attack Americans, given that he’d been working with them for years against ISIS.

Yes, America worked with him for YEARS after all these alleged roadside bombings he did during the Iraq War they keep citing as the reason they killed him.

Basically, 77% Americans can’t find Iran on a map, don’t have any idea what is going on with anything, and Fat Mike Pompeo can get up there and say “beard man is bad, because he is bad and has a beard.”

Of course, when the going gets hot, and we start talking about a real war and people start hearing rumors about a draft, some people will start asking a question or two about the whole “oh just trust us, he was going to start killing our dudes for no reason” line from Pompeo.

But still, only half of Americans will be like “ey yo, hol up.”

Axios:

56% of Americans say they disapprove of President Trump’s handling of heightened tensions with Iran, according to an ABC News poll conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs.

Why it matters: 52% of Americans said the Trump administration’s decision to kill Iranian general Qasem Soleimani in an airstrike makes them feel “less safe,” despite assurances from Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and other top officials that the U.S. is safer with Soleimani gone.

By the numbers: Approval of the airstrike breaks down along party lines. 87% of Republicans approved of Trump’s decision-making on Iran and 54% said they feel safer. 90% Democrats said they disapproved and 82% feel less safe.

And most of that 52% are just Democrats who say “orange man bad, he does bad things because he is a bad orange man.”

Trump’s people apparently now think that Bernie is the threat, because he’s targeting him.

“Bernie Sanders — crazy Bernie! — has condemned the US military strike on Soleimani, the world’s top terrorist,” Trump said in a Thursday night rally in Toledo, Ohio.

“Bernie is going up. He’s surging. Crazy Bernie is surging,” Trump added.

But you know – who the hell knows?

This is the first time Biden has polled not in the front, but it doesn’t mean that this is a trend. If a week from now we have a few more polls showing Bernie in the lead, then things might be interesting. Because we’re less than a month out from the first primaries.

In all honesty, I would be interested in a race between Bernie and Trump. At least, I would be more interested in that than I would be in a race between him and Biden, where Biden just loses.

Making the election about the war would put pressure on Trump to do something – like actually remove the troops from Iraq and elsewhere – before the election.

Biden is just as much of a Zionist as Trump, voted for the Iraq war, supported Obama’s surge in Afghanistan, etc. There is no real interesting debate there. Biden would just say “yes, we should be assassinating people and starting massive wars – but we need to do it LEGALLY.”

Besides – it’s about time America tried communism.

It is truly the only system of government that is proven to work in every situation. Every time that communism has been implemented in any country, it has led to freedom and prosperity.

And according to boomer memes I’ve seen on Facebook, Bernie is not only a communist – he’s also a NAZI.

And I sure do love me some NAZISM.
