At least four people were shot at Morgan State University in Baltimore Tuesday night during homecoming week, prompting police to warn residents to shelter in place.
The shooting erupted on the campus of the historically black university in Baltimore, Maryland shortly before 10 p.m., according to police.
Baltimore Police spokesperson Vernon Davis told the Baltimore Banner that four people were shot. The conditions of the victims were not immediately available.
When the gun violence was first reported, Baltimore Police warned of an active shooter situation near the campus in the 1700 block of Argonne Drive.
By 11:45 p.m., police said there was no longer a threat of an active shooter, but urged students to remain sheltering in place.
The department confirmed that there were “multiple” victims in the shooting — without providing an exact number.
Morgan State University asked people to stay clear of the area surrounding its Thurgood Marshall Hall and the Murphy Fine Arts Center. It also asked concerned parents to avoid the campus area and instead report to a nearby parking lot.
By 11:45 p.m., Baltimore police said the incident was no longer an active shooter situation.
